Vexillology: A study About Flag

 Among so many interesting studies, study about flag can be one thing that we can learn to enrich our knowledge is a study about flag or what we usually call as vexillology. The word which arrives from Roman is representing a study of various elements of flags such as flag type, function, form, and many others.

 Someone who learns vexillology called as vexillologist. Some well- known vexillologists are Peter Ansoff, Don Healy, and Whitney Smith. The knowledge about flag is very beneficial for in various fields from defense to flag design. Not only Whitney Smith is a vexillologist, but also the person who coined the meaning of vexillology.

 
The Study about Flag

 We might have ever heard the word vexillology. Vexillology derives from the word vexillum which mean is flag and – logy which mean is study. Therefore, vexillology means the syudy about flags. Why do we use the word “vexillum” to represent flag? The word vexillum derives from the Roman. It was a type of flag used by the Romans, the form of vela or sail.

 However, the flags at that time were not having similar form as our flags nowadays. That time, the Romans did not use vertical pole, horizontal crossbar and spear. Vexillology seems like a simple thing, but actually it is very important, especially for those who are in marine, government, and many other institutions.
